(Sundance, UT News) Exciting developments are underway at Sundance Mountain Resort, where a major expansion is set to enhance the Sundance Resort skiing and snowboarding experience like never before.
The resort recently announced plans for a brand-new high-speed lift called the Electric Horseman Express — a six-minute ride that will span 1,850 vertical feet, connecting Wildwood Base to Bearclaw Summit. This new lift will open up 165 acres of fresh terrain, including a brand-new bowl adjacent to the popular Bishop’s Bowl.
“The Electric Horseman Express will completely transform the way our guests explore the back mountain,” said Czar Johnson, Sundance Resort's Chief Operating Officer. “For the first time, skiers and riders will be able to access both new and existing terrain with a single, high-speed lift ride.”
In anticipation of the lift's debut, Sundance will also introduce nine new ski trails for the 2025–26 season. These will include a groomed run down the scenic Far East Ridge, plus a dynamic mix of tree skiing, chutes, and intermediate trails—designed to appeal to a wide range of skill levels.
“This expansion gives locals even more reasons to make Sundance their home mountain and gives visiting guests the variety they need to turn our upcoming Inn into their basecamp,” Johnson added.
Since film legend Robert Redford sold Sundance to Broadreach Capital Partners and Cedar Capital Partners in 2020, the resort has been steadily revitalized. The Outlaw Express Lift, launched in 2021, now whisks skiers to Mandan Summit in just seven minutes. In 2024, the resort added The Springs—a trio of soaking pools with an outdoor sauna and changing rooms, perfect for post-slope relaxation.
Looking ahead, the resort is building The Inn, a 63-room lodge set to open in early 2026. With ski-in/ski-out access and modern amenities, the Inn will provide an elevated home base for visitors year-round.
Local residents living in and around Sundance, Utah see this as a welcome improvemnt to the area in general and look forward to an increase in Sundance cabin rentals that arejust outside the Sundance Resort.
“This marks our most significant mountain expansion since 1985,” said Sundance President and General Manager Chad Linebaugh. “The new lift and terrain will not only elevate the overall experience but also unveil new views and mountain perspectives never seen before. Personally, I can’t wait for the Far East Ridge run.” With its bold expansion and renewed vision, Sundance Mountain Resort is proving once again why it remains one of Utah’s most iconic alpine destinations.
